Tip #7 – Your Dog Views Your Family As His Or Her ‘Pack’
The dog will be calmed right down by the familiar objects and directions you give it. Remember that the dog will look at you as if you and your family members are its doggy pack. She will feel more safe and connected to you, if you create a social structure that offers her some security. You have to be consistent about providing for her needs and giving her clear instructions, if you want her to be able to understand various situations.
It’s important to make sure that your dog knows what you want. If you let yourself get frustrated, you will look to her like an incompetent adolescent dog and she may feel like she needs to become the leader. She may feel as frustrated with you as you do with her. That can certainly cause her to have a wide variety of behavior problems later on.
You are now ready to begin fostering a relationship of love and respect with your dog. By taking action as described above, you show your dog that you are the boss in a loving manner. That way your dog will respect, trust and love you rather than respecting and fearing you – and that is what the best dog/owner relationships are based on!
